How to choose Pineapples: Try to pull out one of the leaves from the top of a pineapple, if it comes out easily you know the pineapple is ripe. Look for a bright yellow color in the skin. Give the pineapple a squeeze and if it gives, you know it is very ripe. Beware of mold at the bottom of the pineapple as this is a signal the pineapple is too ripe and should be carefully cut before eating if eaten at all.

Climate and origin: Pineapples originated in Central America and are now grown all over the tropical world, from East Asia, to Africa, to Hawaii.

Taste: Pineapples have a very sweet, almost tart, unique fragrant taste.
