How to choose Ginger

Look for shiny roots that are firm, "earthy", and impart a good smell. Avoid ginger that is wrinkled or dried.

Climate and origin

Ginger originated in Southeast Asia and spread across the tropical world as far as the Caribbean. Today it is grown in warm climates.

Taste

Raw ginger has an extremely sharp and spicy taste. In cooking, ginger mellows considerably, but still adds a lot of spice and aromatic flavor.

Miscellaneous information

A tall and beautiful plant with yellow flowers, ginger is often used in tropical climates for landscaping purposes.
